Abstract

Saccades are ocular oscillations that allow the eye to move from one side to the other to observe everything that is happening around it. If these movements are not well developed, they influence the processes and quality of reading. In this sense, the present research was aimed at determining the relationship between saccadic movements and reading fluency in 5th grade primary school students.

A methodology with a quantitative approach with a non-experimental and descriptive design was chosen. The population sample was made up of 30 students from the second cycle of primary education and the K-D test that measures saccadic movements and the T.A.L.E Test were applied to them to evaluate reading fluency. The data obtained are presented in percentages of absolute and relative frequency. The results obtained in this research demonstrate that there is a positive relationship between saccadic movements and reading fluency. However, it is concluded based on the T.A. test. L. E., that if the relationship between saccadic movements and reading is not met, repetition, rotation, omission and inversion errors can be made. According to the results of the K-D test, it was found that there is a favorable and statistically significant relationship between saccadic movements and reading fluency.
