Situational Diagnosis of communities South Zone of Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. Cases: Bario Obrero, Barrio Lindo, Canabacoa, Hato Mayor and Beijing

Abstract

In order to identify the needs of the communities located in the vicinity of the UAPA, the Situational Diagnosis of communities in the South Zone of Santiago de los Caballeros, Dom. Rep. Cases: Bario Obrero, Barrio Lindo, Canabacoa, Hato Mayor and Beijing. To achieve an effective approach, the first thing was to contact the institutions and community leaders, to hold an initial interview with them, and to coordinate a second meeting open to the community for focal meetings and to apply a SWOT matrix. The researchers found weaknesses from environmental and criminal situations and cases of young people in destructive practices to their physical and emotional health in terms of "teteo", juka, night parties, a lot of free time in the streets, exposure for a long time to the internet without supervision, unemployment, school dropout, depression and low self-esteem, which end up consuming information with violence and sex, situations that constitute a risk scenario especially for young people. Strengths were also identified, such as community institutions and associations, community service programs, street lighting, among others. At the conclusion of the research, a research proposal is presented that allows the construction of a social intervention strategy, through a plan to address the problem, which results in the benefit of the communities under study, which will positively impact these communities, within the framework of the social responsibility assumed by the UAPA.
