The research “Strategies based on poetry” addresses the problem of the decrease in the use of poetry in educational programs, perceived as a complex and impractical literary genre. This relegation has limited the development of critical, creative and emotional competencies in students. The objective of the study is to design and implement innovative teaching strategies that allow poetry to be integrated into teaching, improving the learning process and promoting linguistic, literary and human skills. Justified by the need to revitalize poetry as a pedagogical tool, this research seeks to contribute to the comprehensive development of students. The methodology used is a mixed approach, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. Questionnaires, interviews and reflective diaries were used to evaluate the perception and impact of teaching strategies in students at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD). Critical analysis and creative writing tools were also applied. The results show a significant increase in the students’ capacity for critical analysis and poetic writing, who improved their ability to interpret and produce poetry, in addition to expressing emotions and developing empathy. The students expressed a positive perception about the usefulness of poetry to strengthen their skills. In conclusion, teaching strategies based on poetry managed to improve both the academic performance and personal development of students, reaffirming the value of poetry as an essential educational resource in the contemporary context.
