The English language has become an international language, making it extremely necessary to find strategies to develop its skills. In this sense, social networks are platforms that facilitate the creation and exchange of information in virtual environments, which makes them convenient tools for language teaching. Their use in the classroom allows the creation of two-way communication networks between students and teachers. Their increasing use in daily life justifies their relevance to investigate their didactic potential to improve written competence in English. This study had an experimental design and a mixed approach with the aim of analyzing the use of social networks as learning platforms in language teaching. The sample taken was 32 students from the José Dubeau High School. The results reveal that the aspects of written competence that were most developed were comprehension, with an average of 7.38, and coherence, with an average of 6.81. In addition, the p value < .001 implies that the results are attributed to the use of social networks in the teaching process. This study highlights the positive impact of social media on English language learning, underlining the importance of integrating them as pedagogical tools in language teaching.
