Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the educational management of the centers of District 04-03, San Cristóbal Sur, school year 2022-2023

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic, which spread globally in early 2020, accelerated the integration of ICT in education in most countries. This translated into a rapid transition to virtual education as a measure to continue teaching during lockdowns. In the context of the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Education (MINERD) was implementing the Digital Republic program, which had distributed more than 300,000 electronic devices to secondary schools as of March 2020. However, due to the pandemic and the change of government, there was a redirection of these devices toward teachers. A bidding process was then initiated to acquire the missing devices for secondary school students, as well as those at the primary level.

The purpose of this research is to diagnose the use of ICT in management processes in educational centers in the 04-03 San Cristóbal Sur district. The quantitative approach was assumed. The research results show that these technologies are fundamental in the daily management of the centers. 86.7 % of the members of the management teams use ICT daily in their work, both in the pedagogical dimension and in the administrative aspects of the operation of the educational center, which shows that they have become essential tools in the school context. Finally, ICT plays a crucial role in the educational management of District 04-03 centers, contributing to efficiency and quality.
