
The purpose of the research was to determine the impact of news on the general culture of primary and secondary school students at Colegio Intelecto in Santiago, Dominican Republic, through oral presentations developed by the director at the opening ceremony. It is framed in a quantitative approach, with a correlational, non-experimental and field scope. The population consisted of 343 students from which a sample of 230 students was taken, which corresponds to 67 % of the population, selecting from fourth grade of primary school to sixth grade of secondary school, taking into consideration that the students had reading skills to independently complete the applied instrument. An instrument was designed with 34 items that respond to a Likert-type estimation scale, based on the operationalization of the variable, which was subjected to validity and reliability processes, applied at two times, at the beginning of the school year and after 8 weeks, in which they were exposed to the daily news. The results obtained when comparing the scores of both applications showed a variation in scores, observing a favorable modification of scores in the second application of the instrument, which justifies the continuity of this practice in the educational center to promote and strengthen the general culture of the students.
