Teaching strategies used in Secondary Education in the Dominican Republic

Abstract

The competency-based approach demands from teachers the efficient use of teaching strategies in the classroom. In the Dominican Republic, research on teaching strategies is scarce. To address this problem, we present a study whose purpose is to analyze the use of teaching strategies by teachers at the secondary level in the Dominican Republic, identifying the strategies they use the most. Starting from a representative sample of 491 teachers belonging to 248 educational centers, a descriptive study with a mixed approach is proposed. To measure the strategies used by teachers, they were segmented into dimensions such as: class planning, class introduction, class development and practice, closing and evaluation of learning, and use of technology. We also measure the resources, techniques, and strategies most used by teachers. Teachers use strategies and tools into the classroom.
