Abstract

Educational settings are continuously evolving due to advancements in science and technology. These changes bring about global reforms that affect not only the methods of teaching but also how school organizations are led. This study set out to examine the media and information skills of individuals in leadership roles within school organizations, with a particular focus on their abilities related to creating and sharing information. We conducted this research with a representative sample of 293 school principals across the 18 educational regions in the Dominican Republic. We employed a quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional methodological approach, utilizing surveys and analyzing the data using statistical software (SPSS version 27). The results indicate that the management staff generally reported having either a "User" or "Advanced" level of proficiency in producing and disseminating information in the digital realm. They also perceived themselves as "Experts" when it came to responsibly handling online/offline identity and intellectual property rights. Furthermore, our findings revealed no significant differences in information production and dissemination competencies based on academic level. These findings underscore the need to incorporate strategies for improving communication and information dissemination into both the initial and ongoing training of teachers and educational leaders.
